Louis Tidswell Toowoomba Grammar School

The Keio Shiki / TGS exchange program was very enjoyable. Getting to experience another country by attending school there is something not everyone gets to do, and I was glad I could do it in Japan. All the Keio Shiki students were so approachable and seemed so interested in everything I did. I did not feel nervous having to speak in front of them because they were so nice. Keio Shiki is similar in some ways to TGS but different in others, getting to experience how another culture does the same activity (attending school) really gave me a feel for how people in another country live. With basically no English being spoken during the day, it forced me to try and understand anything I could which helped to develop my language skills far more then studying Japanese in Australia could have. I was lucky to experience homestay with a Keio Shiki student and his family twice, and both times I was amazed with the hospitality of the families. They were so open and accepted me into their home from the moment I walked into the house, this made it very difficult to leave as I felt like part of the family. Myself and the other students from TGS all received many gifts from the families which we weren't expecting and made us rethink how to host the next person who comes to stay at our house. Overall I think the Keio Shiki exchange program was a great experience and I would definitely recommend Keio Shiki Senior High School to anyone looking to do an exchange in Japan.
