7月30日より、オーストラリアにあるToowoomba Grammar School（TGS）との約4週間にわたる国際交流プログラムが始まりました。今年度は、本校3年生2名がTGSの授業に参加し、ホームステイを楽しみながらも日々奮闘しています。
8月1日には、本校とTGSが新たに協定書「Study Abroad Partnership Declaration」に調印しました。TGSとの交流は2012年に始まり、Covid-19パンデミックによる中断を挟みながらも、これまでに約140名の生徒と約10名の教職員が交流を重ねてきました。当日は、これまでの歩みを振り返り、プログラムのさらなる充実と新たな発展、そして両校の明るい未来を誓い合いました。調印式には、両校から下記の計14名の教職員と生徒が出席し、特別な瞬間を共有しました。

また、8月5日には、TGSの創立150周年記念式典に招待いただきました。午前中にはタイムカプセルの開封が行われ、午後にはTGSの全生徒、全教職員、前校長、卒業生、Toowoomba市長らが参加する盛大な式典に列席しました。本校教員は、TGS校長から贈られたネクタイや帽子を着用し、TGSファミリーの一員としての思いを胸に式典に臨みました。
今回のTGS訪問では、学校全体のエネルギーが志木高の未来へとつながっていくことを実感する瞬間が数多くありました。ツアー初日、ブリスベン国際空港にて、到着したばかりの私たちと偶然行き会ったTGSのOBから声をかけられ、日本語で話したこと。2日目、Kinniburgh校長によるスクールツアーの際、同校長がTGSの原点であり最も大切な写真として紹介したものが、慶應義塾の理念「同一の中の多様」と哲学を共有できたこと。TGSの音楽教員と話した際に、彼女が覚えたての日本語で日本への思慕と愛情を伝えてくれたこと。事前に連絡を取り合っていた担当教職員だけでなく、小学校から高校までの全faculty & staff、そして寮生・通学生を含む全ての生徒が私たちとの交流に参加してくれたこと。こうした経験を通じ、両校の生徒と教職員が、単なる学校間交流を超え、日本とオーストラリアを結ぶ架け橋となっていることを強く感じました。
9月には、TGSの生徒と教員が期待を胸に日本を訪れる予定です。今後も、より多くの生徒が互いの言語・文化・習慣を体験しながら交流を深め、日本とオーストラリアをつなぐブリッジとなることを期待しています。
Partnership Agreement with Toowoomba Grammar School and the 150th Anniversary Celebration
On July 30, our four-week international exchange program with Toowoomba Grammar School (TGS) in Australia commenced. This year, two of our third-year students are taking part in TGS classes while enjoying their homestay experiences.
On August 1, our school and TGS signed a new Study Abroad Partnership Declaration, further strengthening a relationship that began in 2012 and has already involved nearly 140 students and 10 faculty members. At the signing ceremony, both schools reflected on more than a decade of exchange, pledged to enrich the program, and confirmed their shared commitment to a bright future. Fourteen faculty members and students from both schools witnessed this significant milestone of our partnership.
On August 5, we were honored to take part in the 150-year anniversary celebration of TGS. The morning featured the opening of a time capsule, followed by a grand assembly in the afternoon attended by all TGS students and staff, former headmasters, alumni, and the Mayor of Toowoomba. Our faculty and staff participated in the ceremony wearing ties and hats presented by the TGS headmaster, proudly celebrating as members of the extended TGS family.
Throughout our visit, we encountered many moments where the spirit of TGS resonated with the future of Keio Shiki. On our first day at Brisbane International Airport, we were warmly greeted in Japanese by a TGS alumnus. The following day, Dr. John C. Kinniburgh, Headmaster of TGS, guided a school tour and presented a treasured photograph that symbolized the same principle of "diversity within unity," which lies at the heart of Keio's educational spirit. We also spoke with a TGS music teacher who warmly expressed her admiration for Japan, in Japanese, which she had just begun to learn. Beyond the staff with whom we had corresponded in advance, every member of the faculty and staff--from junior through senior school--as well as both boarding and commuting students, engaged with us warmly. These experiences highlighted that our partnership is more than an exchange--it is a living bridge between Japan and Australia.
In September, TGS students and teachers will visit Japan with great anticipation. We look forward to further deepening the bonds between our schools as more students share in each other's languages, cultures, and traditions, continuing to build this living bridge between our two nations.
